I have a 1972 coupe and Im not a big fan of the seats. I purchased seats from a 79-82 and installed New foam and leather. Thinking this would be a bolt in I go out to the car and ran into 2 problems. 1- The seat belt retractor hits the underside of the seat and needs to be raised about1/2 an inch. 2- One of the rear holes doesnt line up with the floor. My fix was to try to install my 72 seat tracks on the newer seats but will have to do 1-some cutting of the seat pans 2-Reshape the seat adjuster lever and 3- Add spacers to raise the rear of the seat another 3/8 to 1/2 inch. Has anybody done a similiar swap???
I helped a friend with this a few years back and we copied the new style bracket and made our own adapter to get the tracks to fit. I also recall that we did have to modify the seat belts to fit but at this point I don't remember exactly what we did, sorry.

Reason: typo
this should help you.................
no issues with the stock seat belt....... and you need to raise the front of the seat to get the perfect "rake" ...........
78/82 seats in my 72
you can see how I did it................ just scroll down to post #45 on this page.....
They are not power seats. The seat belt retractor under the seat hits the bottom of the seat pan. The front of the seat is also 3 inchs higher then the stock seats. I am looking at doing the modification above and seee if that works. Anybody else have any ideas???
I put the 80 seats in my 73.
Used the 73 seat rails. I used a spacer in front, seems like it was about 1.25".
Everything works great. No problems. Bolt in swap.
Hope this helps.
Used the 1972 seat rails with a 1/2 inch spacer between the seat rails and the seat bucket. I also had to bend the adjuster into a straight position. It bolted right in after that but Ive lost a few inchs of headroom. I may have to look for an alternate seat belt option and lower the seat back down.
