Steering Gear Box Adjustment
I've had the car for 2 1/2 yrs, steering has always been stiff (per a previous thread) after loosening the nut and turning the screw cc a 1/4 turn at a time and then test driving, it has gotten noticeably easier, but I am now out a full turn and half. Don't know what the previous owner has done if anything. 
Is more harm or danger being done than good? Thanks

If the lash is incorrect you will destroy the gears in the steering box. THe lash needs to be setup as directed in the service manual with the correct amount of preload on the gears.
mar is correct- too loose is as bad as too tight

Thanks for all advice, is it possible that the gear box is still good even after 1 1/2 turns out made it so much easier? Anyway I'll check these things to make sure they are lined up straight like the wheels, gear box, rag joint and steering wheel and go from there. Ed
