Well I'am ready to piece togeather my engine after finding my block cracked, and am wondering if I should go mild ( 9.0-1 pistons, stock ..882 heads w/port matching, comp cam XE256, stock torque conv.& fresh tranny) or a little spicier ( 9.5-1 pistons, stock ..882 heads w/2.0-1.6 manley street flo valves w/port matching, comp cam XE262, upgrade torque conv. & tranny, performer int., headers & duels w/hi flow cats) because I'am in an emision's state :bs so is it going to effect my emisions and/or worth it due to the exhaust restrictions & emision devices? Any input would be helpfull.
Re: opinions on new engine/trans componets (stingraynick75)
9:1 is high enough with today's crap gasoline, and iron heads with no computer...you may want Lars to set up the dist. and carb...
that should get you in the ballpark....
I think 9.5 is too high and will get you nothing but greif and overheating, pinging, and effective loss of power...
IF you went DPFI, closed loop, there would be the best setup you could do...
along with overdrive....that's what I did....
and in all honesty, I started this engine with 993 iron heads 1.94 valves, and it ran fine, but I spend a grand on Edelbrock heads 202 valves, and did not get any performance increase from them....nothing I felt anyway...just a waste of money....
