My friend has a '74 L82 Corvette and has been having a problem with it on cold startup. I guess from what he told me, when starting up, choke closes and then starts. But, when he gives it gas, there is a hesitation. When warmed up, it runs perfectly fine. I gave him a nother Qjet w/ electric choke and it does the same thing. Could it be timing? Any suggestions are helpful.

It is normal for a carburated engine to have hesitation for the first minute or two, how cold a cold start are we talking, the car should run fine after about two minutes of driving!
The carb and choke adjustments need to be reset according to the Chevrolet Chassis Service Manual instructions in the "Fuel System" section [6M].
When the choke is properly set up, the car will run fine until hot. Mine does! There is more than just choke plate opening rate to to get the right balance with the fast idle setting.

TOO. When I had the stock setup on my '69 which I drove 132,000 miles, I don't recall ever having a drivability problem when cold or hot. At least not when it had a fresh tune. Now my current setup with no heat to the crossover, is another matter. I have to be careful with the throttle until the engine is warm.
