Hey guys...
Before changing my points dizzy to a Mallory electronic one, the car ran ok but not great. Now it runs great as long as you keep the rpm's around 2500. Anything lower than that and you get an ocassional backfire. The car has the original 350 with a mild cam and aluminum heads. I took the car to a performance shop to have the dizzy installed so they could dial it in for me. It has both mechanical and vacuum advance. I am also running an edelbrock carb. Right now the vacuum advance is hooked up to the passenger side of the carb with the drivers sided capped off. Since I didnt have these problems before, Im thinking someting isnt right with how the new electronic ignition is setup...any help would be appreciated. Also let me know if there is any other info you need to help with diagnosing the problem!!
Thanks, I did that and it was still backfiring. I brought the timing back couple degrees and its running alot better in the midrange but its still sluggish off idle. I think the guys that adjusted the timing for me originally set it for ***** to the wall racing cuz all of the power was in the 3-3500 rpm range with no cruisablity. It cruises along good now but still need to off idle fixed. I was told this was as good as it will get because of the long duration of the cam thats in it but its hard for me to believe. I think it just needs more tweaking.
may need to look at carb
sounds like the fuel bowl is filling up with fuel and not using it causing a back fire when it does empty
how old is your carb
