Default 383 Stroker In My 75

Just Put A 383 Stroker In My 75 With 4 Speed, Put A Holly 600 CFM On

With A Eldenbrock Manifold, Built With Stage 3 Cam, Took Some Work To Get Timed But Finaly Got It, Very Impressed With The Power, Got A 2.5 Dual Exhaust On, Hopfully The Drive Line Holds Up To The Torque,
Next I Need To Get A Hot Box For The HEI.

I'm thinking about putting a SB 427 in mine....do you think a Holly 600cfm Barry Grant Road Demon would be too small?

Yes, unless you don't want to rev over about 5 grand I've seen too many folks having trouble with anything by Barry Grant, a good 750DP should fit the bill perfectly.

I was thinking that 600 cfm is a little shyon the cfm's for a 383, especially with the 4 Speed... heck I've got a 670 on my ZZ4 and it's an automatic

Get in touch with Lars up in Lafayette. He will help you tune up a nice 750 for that 383.

He's a very knowledgeable guy and will get it running right with a bigger carb.

I am running a Lars built Q-Jet on my 383.

Q-Jet = 750 cfm minimum!

The 383 Stroker in my 79 came with a rebuilt 600 cfm Rochester.

Under hard acceleration, the carb would run itself out of gas and cause me to have start and stop acceleration.

I am in the process of replacing it with a Edelbrock 750 and a much improved fuel pump....along with two dozen other upgrades...

Fwiw.......

Stroker is a mad motor!!! Me likeee!!!

I'm putting in a 383 stroker in my 1981....quick question:

Are you using 1 5/8 or 1 3/4 inch primary headers?

I've got some Edelbrock RPM heads and they call for 1 3/4 headers but 1 5/8 headers are sooooo much cheaper.

There is no such thing as a 600 cfm Rochester Q-Jet. All Q-Jets, with a few 800 cfm exceptions, are 750 cfm.

If the carb was "running out of gas," you either have a fuel supply problem or a carb setup problem. There is no problem with the size of your 750 cfm Q-Jet. You would be better off fixing your fuel problems and carb tuning problems than switching to another carb of the same size and re-tuning it.
