Default Headers for angle plug heads

I've got a stock ZZ4 that is going in my '78 so I need something that will fit the angle plug heads. I want quality and was looking at getting some coated Hookers through Jet Hot. Unfortunately, the Comp headers won't fit angle plugs. Super Comps will, but they have 1 3/4" tubes as opposed to the Comps' 1 5/8". It seems like it might be overkill to be running 1 3/4" tubes for a fairly mild 350. Thoughts? Will this have negative impact on performance?

I had Flotech ceramic coated mheaders on my ZZ4 and had access to all the plugs, no problem. The coating seems to get a matt finish after a while.

How was the seal? What kind of gaskets did you use, and did you have any leak problems? Also, you replied in the past tense...how long did you run those headers?

The seal was perfect, no leaks. I replied in the past tense only because I changed the heads to Brodix IK-180's. I still run the headers on them without any leaks but getting to one plug is a bitch and one plug is real close to one of the tubes. With the angle plug heads no problem at all.

I used the gaskets that came with them. Put a coat of grease on them and tightened the bolts...........never a leak.

Thanks for the info! One last question: As far as the install goes, any clearance issues (i.e. starter) or modifications you had to do to get them bolted on to your original ZZ4 heads?

No installation issues at all. I still have the heatshield on the starter, no modifications anywhere, these bolted right up.

Check the flanges carefully before you put them on, there were a couple of places with some weld spatter on mine, I just carefully ground it off.

The summit racing brand headers are Flowtechs. Excellent fit with angle plug heads.

FYI, ZZ4 has D shaped exhaust ports not square.
Hedman makes Headers with D ports for the ZZ4.
Have them on my ZZ4. I thought the ZZ4 had straight plugs, at least seems that way in looking at mine.

ZZ4 heads have the L-98 angles. They are not the same as the old Chevrolet angled plug heads that Hooker is referring to. So, the Hookers may fit, especially with shorty plugs. Best thing to do is order them from a reputable dealer that will work with a return if they don't fit.

I decided to drop the cash for the Jet Hot coated Super Comps. I'll let you know how it all works out when they get here.
