can any 1 tell me why my power steering oil is boiling, i have new power steering pump and new steering gear box, i blow through both lines not plugged any help would be greatful thanks peter
you sure it's not just air? When you add fluid to a new or low system, you will get a lot of bubbles for a while. They'll clear up after a while once you get all the air out of the lines.
If it is really hot, then you have other problems
Mine dosent boil and you still cant hold on to it after driving it for while. Its going to get hot from just driving.Do you have a touchless theromometer to measure how hot its getting. Then maybe one of the guys can measure their temp and compare it to yours. What kind of fluid are you using? The one on my truck willhit 150 in the summer time.
PS fluid is a hydraulic oil that is similar to auto transmission fluid (but not the same). It can easily reach 300 degrees F at times and normally runs between 160 and 200 degrees depending on how hard the pump is working.
Power steering fluid is somewhat like brake fluid (stock issue) in that they can absorb water. If some water got into the PS system, it will then boil out of the fluid when it reaches 212F {at sea level, anyway}. The other possibility is that the PS pump is malfunctioning and generating way too much [friction] heat. The latter possibility is a more serious issue.
