Voltmeter slightly erratic

I noticed when driving at night that my voltmeter occasionally fluctuates between 13 and 15 volts. My panel lites brighten and dim w/ the voltage fluctuations so it is not the gage. It does not happen very often. Is this normal? stock 1977 , 4 speed, 350sb.

The only time I've noticed anything similar on a C3 it was starting from a dead stop at night. Voltage/current output from the stock alternator is pretty weak at idle rpm.

You might want to get the alternator tested. Maybe the regulator is bad.

I have tightened the alternator belt which was definitely a tad on the loose side and so far cannot repeat the problem but the problem was infrequent to begin with so testing continues!
