EuG,
I went to your page. You have some cool mods there I must say! What kind of 1/4 mile times will it run?How about gas milaege when driven easy?
This is the kind of car Vipers should steer clear of it looks to me
Thats what I like about the C5's.They do everything well when stock and can be modded just like all other cars yet retain some type of reasonable fuel milaege.
My cousins stock 98 model pulls hard from 100mph up yet is so smooth it is very decieving.HMMMMMMMMMMm You know,he never drives that thing and loves my Miata and wants my old Massey Ferguson.Might need to take him some beers and do some horse trading!

I don’t have any good ¼ times yet. I ran a bunch of 12.0s on street tires at full pressure with best trap speed of 122.5MPH, but then realized that car was badly out of tune :( (running only at ~420-430rwHP as turns out when we redynoed - computer kept relearning fuel and timing due to false knock )
I guess those times are not too bad considering I was giving up ~40rwHP and running in 80F weather in 100% full street trim…
I should have new times soon :reddevil
How about gas milaege when driven easy?
Gas mileage isn’t bad at all. I’d say it may be down 1-2 MPG from stock. I drive very aggressively even on the highway  (90-100MPH most of the time, no cruise control a lot of acceleration bursts just for fun :D ) I get 24-25MPG this way….
slow?? not hardly. i own a c3 and thats all, but before my engine swap, i got smoked by c5's. i think the c5's would still beat bbc3's simply cause the c5's can latch up with the ground. now, if you put slicks on both cars, and raced them, im sure the 435 hp bb would spank the 385hp c5 Zo6's. although that 435 mark is at the flywheel im sure you would not lose 50 hp to the tranny and driveline... plus with that big block torque, well.....think annihalation(sp?)
oh and as far as races, any c5's in teh wyoming/montana area who want to race give me 2 weeks to get my new rear end in and ill race ya

Good point(s), but I've always wondered about that flywheel to RW ratio. There are a lot of drivetrain factors (eg, tranny, gear ratio).
Does anyone know a rule-of thumb ratio for flywheel to rear wheel HP? I'd imagine you'd lose at least 50-75 horse taking estimates off the rear. How about torque? I know (indirectly) a guy running in the 11s with a new Z06 (no mods).
well, you know, i dont know. with the setup i put in i lost 10% of my power and torque once it got to the wheels.
i am sure you would lose more on a stock system, but on the other hand i think the new cars are a little heavier, are they not? i guess ive always pictured the big blocks as the '63 style cars which i think weighed under 3klbs but i could be wrong.even if they weighed the same and the Z06 did have a bit of an advantage on the bb, i would think the monster torque the bb produces would make up for it
oh, and as far as the 11 second Z06, id have to say hes lying to you if he told you he was running the quarter in 11 seconds cause the official corvette website from chevrolet says it can do it in 12.4 so unless this guy is a shoot professional race car driver then he is lying out of his a** cause to make up over 4 tenths of a second on the strip is from a lot of horsepower. ive never seen anyone be able to beat the stock realeased performance notes by 4 tenths of a second. in fact heres the link on the new 2002 Zo6 http://www.chevrolet.com/corvette/index_features.htm
go all the way to the bottom of the spec page and its right above fuel economy. and its done with a manual so he couldnt have made it up by using power not robbed by teh automatic since it was tested using a manual. i would show this article to this guy and ask to see a time slip.
I've heard rule of thumb that that driveline HP loss is around 10% for Manual, 15% for Auto.
Most stock C5's M6 cars dyno around 315 HP at the rear wheels. Factor in a little over 10% and you're at 340 which is what Chevy claims. Auto cars are usually around 300.
Now, I would guess that for a C3 the loss is probably a bit more, since the C5 is using a lot lighter and more efficient parts. I've *heard* 15% for manual, 20% for auto.
BTW, to clear any misunderstanding, when I said C-5s tend to get out of my way... but fast, I meant that. Pulling up behind one, they tend to be over the hill and gone before I've noticed the light has turned green :)
As far as 'not your Father's Oldsmobile'. Even though it's not a 'vette I still love old Detroit muscle :flag
