Default Something a bit different, A chopped C-3 ?

Hello all.
A thought that ran through my mind is chopping my vette.
I wonder how a vette would look chopped and can't really picture it too well.
Mainly instead of fully chopping it what I'm thinking about is lowering the front 1-1 1/2".
My questions are:
1. Anyone have any pics of chopped vettes ?
2. can the seat pan be lowered ? I havn't really looked into this but I do feel it would be neccasary to chop it and still have some headroom.
3. Can the rear fiberglass backing behind the seat be...pushed back, or maybe molded around the seat ? So the seat can recline a bit to get more headroom.
Any comment, ideas, or opinions are appreciated, But try not to flame too much :blueangel:
Thanks

I don't know 'bout you, but I think Corvette's come chopped.

On a ealy C4, the seat can be lowered about 1/2 inch, I've never seen the underside of a C3 seat though.

There was a guy in Vette magazine that made a vert out of an '80 and then chopped the windshield... it was in an 2001 issue. It looked pretty cool. Lotta custom work there though. :smash: :smash:

there was an article of a 75/76 vette in either vette quarterly or corvette fever a year or so ago , with a chopped or cropped roof line with a extended molded wing .. plus it had other engine mods done to it .. it looked cool .. if I remember it had a blue color with a stripe ..

I'll post a pic or two of a chopped vette from an early 80's car show later today. I'm home with the baby :blueangel: (well toddler now - almost 16 months).

The pics of the chopped vette I have are fairly dark, but the car looked very cool. To chop a late 60's or 70's vette, camero etc. the windshield has to be laid back at more of an angle, you can't cut safety glass and a one of a kind windshield is too expensive. And all of the angles must account for in the side windows being rotated to match up with the windshield.

Lot's of custom work, I used to dream about this as a kid but even though I'm planning a lot of mods with a C3, this is one mod I don't have the b---- to try. :jester

Check back later and I should have some pics posted.

I can't even imagine trying to get in and out of one that was chopped, especially with the t-tops in, or the convertible up.. you'd have to do it old Fiat X1/9 style, and sorta just roll out onto the ground, then get up...

There was a magazine article about a fella who did all the visual stuff, to make his car look chopped.

Like a purple car with a white stripe. It had a roll pan under the rear, and the flat part of the sugar scoop on the rear had been tilted up so that at the window it was higher then the bumper. The rear spoiler lip had been extended... etc

It looked chopped

I have heard that safety glass can be cut using a sand blaster. True or not, I dunno but I can see the theory behind it.

Interesting Mike, I talked to glass shops about trying to chop the roof on my Mustang back in the 80's and that was what they all told me.

Here are some pics of the one I've seen.

Callaway did something similar on a C4 vert that looked pretty good. I'm short so I don't have a headheight issue, but can see it being an issue on a coupe. JMHO :) .

Instead of chop,....I would like to see a C-3 widened by 6 inches. Cut the fiberglass straight down the middle, then add 3 inches to each half. bring both halves together and body work and paint. A wider C-3 is something I would like to see. With wide tires on the rears, and all the rubber completely tucked neatly into the fender wells. By widening it will automatically make the car appear chopped. I have a dream to do this.....If anyone has seen a C-3 widened, and you have pictures, please post....... :)

That would be a very cool lookin' modification. I too would like to fit really wide tires yet keep the side appearance somewhat stock looking.
I would like to see the front and rear fenders buldged out by a couple of inches in a really fluid and subtle fashion. Know what I mean?

Well, not bad at all!
Besides the stange nose the flat shape of the body looks very cool.......

Flame me, but this is my honest opinion! :flag

I agree. A wider C3 would be the best overall. I have thought about how one would go about doing that and there's just too much that becomes one of a kind custom. Interior work, frame, mounting . . . the list would just go on and on. But a wider C3 would look much better. I think that's one of the reason the chrome bumper cars look better, they aren't as long and the chrome, makes them look even shorter.

And Mike, I thought about building molds to lay-up 4 new fenders to get the fender bulge like you described but I just don't think I could create four fenders that were similar on each side let alone symetric . . . so, I'm going with the ZL-1 Flares

I actually like the flat nose . . . It's funny though, when I was a teenager I thought that paint job was one of the coolest I'd ever seen, now I think that car should be black. :D

I agree widening a vette would definatly look good, But there is just too much involved with that.
I am going to look into chopping more, Thanks for the opinions guys.
