Default (1968) Which 327 do I have ...327 w/300hp or 350hp?

Hello, how can I tell which 327 I have on my 1968 ... the 327 w/300hp or 350hp? Is there something on the car that shows me? I have changed the intake manifold and carb. Any info you need to know please ask Thank you

I normally associate a cast iron intake and painted valve covers instead of aluminum as the lower HP hydraulic engine or the base engine......also if the tach is not a 6500 red line it will not normally be a solid lifter high HP engine......But people change dress-up items available for performance motors to base engines and then intentionally confuse observers as to what engine is in the Vette......however the tach is almost 'never changed and is a good clue.....

Didn't you say in another post that your engine is not original?

Is the code still present on the block, in front of the right head?

The easiest is the valve covers. 300hp painted, 350hp flash chrome, if original to the car.

BTW - I'll give you some cash for the carb that came off the motor. Email me pics to buddysingletary@gmail.com

Default If your tranny tag is still there it might give you a hint...

If I remember right there is a little metal tag on the tranny. Take a look if your engine stamp is not visible.

Tach RPM of redline is easiest way to tell 300HP=5500 redline 350HP=6000 redline.

The suffix code will be HT if it is the 350HP.

Interesting...were these valve covers flash chromed, hence why they look crappy now?

Of course...anyone can swap covers...and I don't really remember what my redline was. I want to say 6000 but I'm probably just being optimistic.

Those are C2 valve covers, not C3. As previously posted, you've got a mix and match set up that to me is just not right.

Hello, the tach starts yellow at 5000 then orange at 5500 and redline at 7000... does that help? I have to check the numbers to make sure its the original engine .. I know the intake manifold was not original. Thanks for the information everyone

Front passenger side of the engine. There will be two sets of numbers. One the last digits of the vin and the other a suffix code. #'s and Letters. The vin will tell you if it is original.

I had my dad check the tach..

"Yellow at 5800 red at 6000"

But I guess it doesn't matter since it wasn't an original motor! :S

Just clone it like I did. I found a date specific block and installed it. The front pad was erased during milling. If I ever wanted to have it judged, I could stamp it to complete the restoration or take deduct.
