Default New guy here....from the dark side!

Hello all. I am a long time FORD Mustang guy (60's) and today switched over to the Corvette! I picked up a nice 1973 Corvette today, silver with maroon interior all original and in very good condition.

I'll post pics as soon as I can. I have always been an active forum guy on the Classic Mustangs forums and anxious to join the team here. I must admit...I feel so out of place. Amazing to me how these cars are SO different.

While I am here I do have a quick question on this '73 and the rear view mirror. It has a ball/socket type of attachment. I went to adjust the mirror on the way home from buying it and it popped out. I thought it would go right back in, but don't think so. Any ideas out there?

Thanks again for allowing me to join and learn. I hop that in short order I might be able to provide advice on Corvettes as I have for the Stangs.

All the best.

Cheers,
Steve

Welcome aboard Steve, I have a 75 but I believe the mirrors are the same. Mine liked to have it's own way and flop a bit so I cut a small plastic shim out of a gallon milk jug and the mirror now stays where I put it.

splurge and buy a new mirror, try Paragon as they sell ones made in U.S.A.They last a lot longer, the imported ones might last a year if your lucky.Vibration loosens them up.Try Wilcox also, they're alot of help on the forum.

Welcome. Nothing wrong with an old Ford.

After you've crawled around it for a while, you'll find that these cars aren't that much different than any old hot rod other than the rear end.

Welcome. Big fan of the 73's.

Your mirror probably isn't worth trying to fix. Either pick up a used one on ebay or oa new one from one of the many corvette parts vendors. Willcox is particularly supportive of his forum and has good parts.

If you are going to buy a new mirror think about getting the one with the map light. It will cost more but it will be your only interior usable light.

Seems we have a bit in common. I am also a Mustang guy. I don't own any now but still admire the early ones, 65 - 70. I had a 67, 70 Mach 1, and a couple 69 Mach 1s... My first Vette was also a 73. Welcome to the forum!

Welcome aboard, Steve! I've grown to expect to see a mustang or two roll up at my local Corvette cruise-ins. I think it all comes from a mutual appreciation of classic American muscle. Keep a space free in the garage, and get one of each!

Definately check with Wilcox. Eckler's also has quite a bit to offer, but most of the time, it's considerably more $$$ than Wilcox. (I'm still kicking myself for a couple impulsive purchases.)

Glad to have you here on the boards...

Welcome to the board Steve. True car guys are car guys. The breed really doesn't matter. A cool car is a cool car.

I have always loved Corvettes and they were always my dream cars, but I have had many other hot rods and muscle cars, and loved them all. One of my favorite, and one I wished I owned now, was a 1970 428 Super Cobra Jet Mach 1 Mustang 4 gear car with a Drag Pack, rear louvers and wing, front air dam, Shaker Scoop, no air, no power steering, Black stripes on Grabber Blue. That's a mouth full!

I looked years back ago on the Mustang registry and they only made 12 like this car. I traded it for a pick up in 73.

Anyway, I got carried away, welcome! Hope you enjoy the Vette.

Welcome to the forum Steve. I'm sure you'll have lots of fun with your new '73. You've come to the right place for Vette knowledge. By the way, are you from the San Francisco area? Is that why you're "FriscoSteve?" Don't forget to post pics of the engine bay area.

Welcome and nice to see another 73. The fun is already begining for You I see. If the ball didn't break off mirror You should be able to remove the "C" clip (at least thats what it looks like to Me) Its held on by one screw. Check to see if You can hold ball part of mirror in indentation on header, then hold C clip over it tightly and it should hold mirror in place. If not the C clip needs to be replaced or fixed. If the ball has broken from mirror, You need a new mirror. Waiting for pics of Your new ride.

You and me Steve. We just bought our first Corvette, a 72 4 speed car. I've been a Mustang guy all my life and still enjoy my 66 Emberglo convertible.

Looking forward to learning all about these bowtie classics. Good luck with yours.

Truer than you think.

I worked at GM's Norwood, Ohio plant from 69 to 71 and got to see a lot of Ford trannys go into both the Camaro and Firebird....

Anyway..

Welcome Steve,..

Sorry you don't have a chrome front bumper....

Thanks all for the great feedback. Sorry, not from San Francisco, but Frisco, Texas...a suburb of Dallas.

I meant to take a lot of pics yesterday of the car to post them but the holiday plans got in the way. Will post them up this weekend!

It's been fun going through your pics in all of your albums. I love these cars.
