Default HELP!! weird idling situation.....

Me and Andre77 swapped carbs and i got his AED/Holley 750 carb, and i have been having a problem keeping it idling properly....I got a nice heavy return spring, and it idled fine, but the throttle was almost impossible to floor, and even at 1/4 throttle it was soo stiff. So i went and purchases a new set of return springs and the throttle is still a little stiff, but not as bad.

So if the car is not running, and I try to advance the throttle a little bit and see if itll get stuck, it doesnt seem to, and when started it will idle fine till I hit the gas.....I can then pull it back to make it idle normal again, but as soon as i give it any throttle it gets stuck unless i whack the pedal so it pulls back strong. But here's the weird situation....if I get the idle in the stuck position and then turn the ignition off, i can see the throttle come back slightly....and if i restart it right away, itll idle normal agaain

I asked Andre if he had this same situation and he said yeah, but thought it was just something that needed to be tuned.....Im in no way mad at Andre about this so please done think this is a rant on him.....just looking for some help or ideas.
Thanks!
Chris

If it's a mechanical secondary. Make sure the secondaries are closing they might be hanging open a bit and causing the idle problem(high idle).

Sounds like the throttle shaft bushings are worn. The vacuum when the engine is running is pulling the butterflies & shaft down, making it bind. You can try oiling/lubing the shaft, but my guess is you'll have to get it re-bushed.

Thanks guys....
Scott78, i checked all of that as well.....everything was smooth as can be....The carb is like brand new otherwise.....even looks brand new everywhere.

zwede, that sounds more like what is going on, and i was thinking something with soo much vacuum pulling that it was keeping the butterflies open. but bad bushing could cause this if it got hung up on it. but why would this happen with a practically brand new carb...plus andre said he noticed the same thing when it was brand new. Im gonna call AED on Mon when they are open again.
