Re: Finally started building the twin turbo headers (bence13_33)
Thanks Bence, and everyone else for the support. I haven't really discussed it much on the C3 forum, but it's been a frustrating project up until this past weekend. The car basically sat in the chassis shop for 3 months untouched, while I kept getting fed excuses and delays. Considering the effort and expense, I've questioned whether it is worth it or not, but it seems to be all working out now as the header, intercooler, and exhaust should be done next week.
If everything continues to move along, I should have it dyno tested and tuned by the beginning of May, and I'll be able to make it to the Forum Cruise-in in BG.

I SOOOOOO hope that both you & Merlin can make it with your cars. It'll be really interesting to hear the difference between the 2 monster motors :yesnod: . If you two make it, no one will even notice my car's there (but that's fine). Looks like the C3's will be very well represented :D . Who knows, after people see the wild C3's there, maybe you & Merlin can single handedly raise the value of all our cars in that one weekend  !
Re: Finally started building the twin turbo headers (SmokedTires)
SmokedTires,
The difference between the sound of Steve's car and mine should be like 'night and day'. Obviously Steve is going for a very bold presentation, and he's certaily accomplished that! I'm going for stock appearance and sound - it's easier to get races that way and recoup my expense, a couple hundred $$ at a time ;).
Turbo cars are known for having very mellow idles and exhaust notes, stock sounding pretty much. The reason being that the compression is lower, the camshaft only has a small amount of overlap, and the turbochargers themselves act as a very effective muffler. Actually, alot of NMCA/NSCA and NMRA racers don't even run mufflers on the turbo cars, and they can still meet the noise requirements. That's part of the sleeper theme - stock appearance and stock idle/exhaust note.
I hope as many C3'ers as possible can make it. There are so many cars on this forum I'd love to see in person.
Re: Finally started building the twin turbo headers (Noel Carboni)
Well McMonroe, he does run those 7.20's on DOT tires. He runs IHRA Outlaw and in that class, they require a DOT street legal slick. He does use the 114 or 116 grade of gas for those blasts but on pump gas he's had no problem running 8.50's. Don't get so washed up in what people say their car will do or the power they think they're going to make until they make a pass at the 1320 and have the good ole timeslip to boot.
Re: Finally started building the twin turbo headers (corvette kid 427)
Some more good progress in the last couple of days, but still not done:).
Both turbo's are mounted, both down pipes are made, headers are completely done. Now it's just the rest of the exhaust, wastegates, intercooler, and secondary brackets, shielding, etc. Probably won't be done till middle of next week.
Here's a mockup of the left downpipe.
And a mockup of the right downpipe. I had to leave before he could tack them into place.
Re: Finally started building the twin turbo headers (Monty)
wow  . Thats all I can say. My other friends (non-corvetters) are following your project too. So us hometowners are watchin ya! What shows will you be taking it to? And if you are ever plannin on a trip to great lakes speedway, give me a heads up because I have to see that car! thanks for the pics
Re: Finally started building the twin turbo headers (Blues77)
As soon as it's done, I plan to hit the local cruise-in spots and I'd like to show it at this years Bloomington Gold since it's so close this year in St. Charles at Pheasant Run. I'm trying to make the Forum Cruise-in in BG, but it's a long shot.
I'm planning on taking it up to GLD a couple of times - I gotta at least see what it's capable of. I'm not expecting much in terms of an ET, maybe low to mid 10's, but the trap speed should be somewhere in the 150's or so. All us Chicago area forum guys should meet up sometime at GLD on one of their open 'test and tune' days. The Vettewrench also holds dyno (chassis) days that alot of the local Forum guys have told me about, I'd like to put my rig on their chassis dyno too, to calculate drivetrain efficiency, etc.
Ever check out the local Chicago forums - ChiTownracing.com or Chicagoefi.com. They're both pretty new sites, so the traffic isn't high yet, but it's interseting to see what other Chicago area guys are doing.
Re: Finally started building the twin turbo headers (StingrayRacing)
10's is certainly quick for a street car, I'm just saying that I have no illusions of running as fast as the power would allow. I want to retain the Corvette IRS in some form, so traction will always be the limiting factor.
Re: Finally started building the twin turbo headers (robzr)
Initially I was planning on getting them coated to help control the heat, but the 321 stainless steel looks real nice after it's cleaned and burnished. The material looks almost like chrome, but with a gold hue, I think it'll look good uncoated. It depends on how the heat issue works out.
Re: Finally started building the twin turbo headers (Monty)
Monty - Do you have a TT hood like mine? The original TT daytona race cars ducted air in on the front two scoops to keep the turbine/exhaust heat down. The rear upper vents acted like a chimney.
Re: Finally started building the twin turbo headers (Monty)
Here's a couple more shots from today. I didn't get pics of it because I ran out of space on my MemoryStick, but the exhaust is done and the wastegates are mounted. The only thing left to do is the intercooler and cold air plumbing, and the support brackets for the turbo's. The new Spearco core was supposed to come today, overnight UPS. Figures that the car will be done this weekend and I've got "honey do's" all weekend...
We also put a v-band at the downpipe, exhaust pipe flange. If the turbo's are as effective at silencing the exhaust as everyone tells me, I may just no run the exaust past the downpipe, or I may make a little turn out pipe myself when I get the car back.
Re: Finally started building the twin turbo headers (Monty)
 man that is an impressive setup
when its a ruinning and no "honey-do this, honey-do that"
I'll have to come down.
me, silvr77, you and whoever else we can drag away from
there ball-n-chain, oops, I mean significant other and make our
own little get-to-gether !....
Re: Finally started building the twin turbo headers (Silvr77)
All us Chicago Area/Southern Wisc guys should meet up at Great Lakes Dragway in Union Grove, WI sometime this summer during one of their open days for "Test and Tune." Not much better than beer and drag racing - not necessarily in that order ;).
Re: Finally started building the twin turbo headers (Monty)
Monty, no one can ever accuse you of doing things half butt. Awesome!! As for the time slips: Not all of us are in it for just 1320 feet, but your vehicle will certainly put down any number you want it to from light-to-light, 1/8 mile, 1/4 or infinity. The beauty of forced induction is the constant increase in power through the whole RPM range. Nothing like it. Now, if I can only get RedTurbo to sell me his stuff. Actually, I will be getting his intercooler soon. He plans to go bigger and will probably go with a slightly larger turbo, not the T88 though. I think he mentioned an A-80.(?) Currently he runs 5.9's at 119 in the 1/8th mile with a single T-76 turbo, 383, powerglide, 3:70 gear and DOT slicks. Your potential can get you into the low 9 seconds in the 1/4 mile in a heartbeat. Good Luck and keep it going.
