1971 coupe 4 speed...something sounds real awful when i step on it?? i thought it was from the rear,so i mounted a cam, (like the video about the bad c-clip here on the forum) gassed turned and braked, but i couldnt see any thing wrong.. mono spring, strutrods, half shalfs seems ok.. oils is ok. no heavy leaks.,but the output shalf(gearbox) is backlash? 0,079 in (2 mm) i can not make black lines at all, then it sounds like sprockets are skipping.. joints are ok.. any idea, someone, kjell

It's hard to understand what you are describing but it could be a problem with the rear end. I had a situation once where the ring gear bolts loosened to the point where eventually one or more sheared and blew a hole through the rear end cover.

pull the diff cover and check for metal in the fluid. if you find some time for some rear end work if not replacing the fluid with a nice synthetic may help

Bad diff snubber bushings, that would allow the driveshaft to hit the tunnel.
A bad motor mount will allow the fan to hit the shroud.
Both make some really nasty noises with hard acceleration without leaving obvious evidence.
