Wanted to take a look at my seat belt retractor which is of course stuck... In the course of trying to remove the drivers side seat, one of the four bolts that holds the rails in spins, but wont loosen or even tighten. I need to know how to get this frigger out. The problem is it is the back left bolt (if you were sitting in the seat) There is no room to get a cutoff tool in there from the top. On the underside it goes into a hollow opening in the frame so no luck getting in there either. I tried breaking off the head by grabbing it with a vice grip, no luck. Any suggestions? :mad
Well, that sounds bad. Try soaking down with Blaster, then maybe you could get a screwdriver under the head to put some up pressure on the nut in the frame. Maybe then it will come out. Good luck
You might be able to drill it out, but you run the risk of killing the threads in the nut. Of course, it sounds as if they are already ruined. How about pulling up on the back left corner of the seat while trying to remove the bolt? Same effect as putting a screwdriver under the head of the bolt.
On my car that particular bolt wasn't fastened to a riveted plate, like the others. It was held by a regular nut, and it would spin unless I held the nut somehow.
The nut is not inside the frame rail nor totally enclosed by the frame. It's above that triangular "corner" of the frame, which has a hole in it and is also open on the "inside". So you can get a wrench there, or use a socket and extension through the "hole"... If I remember correctly, it's kind of a Houdini operation, but with some patience you'll manage to do it.
