Remove headlight assembly on 71 vette

I have read through the forum on how to remove the headlight assembly on my 71 and have found very different suggestions. This doesnt make sense to me. The cars were built the same. Someone surely has the proper method for removing the headlights. Im getting ready for paint and really need some help on this one.

Are you looking to remove the hole assy. or just the door?

The headlamp assemblies were in the body when painted. It is best to do them that way to keep from damaging them on reinstall.

I would defiantly tape them up or wrap them up to protect the paint. I had to remove my A/C condenser and “horse collar” to get mine out.
