Converting to HEI distributor?
When I get my BB ready for transplant into my '70, I'm thinking of using the HEI distributor too!
But this is what's puzzling me. How do I connect it to my ancient 1970 harness? There seem to be a lot more wires to connect on the HEI....or am I missing something here?
Re: Converting to HEI distributor? (1970 Stingray)
You need to trace down that stiff black wire to the dist....that is a steel core resistor wire, that is active in the RUN position, and in fact is jumpered out by another copper wire from the starter solenoid in the START position...
best way, is to just tape up these two wires neatly and run a dedicated pink wire from the ignition switch up under the dash...should be about 12 ga and not any thinner....
those pink wires are a switched hot...or IGNITION...wire set...
this will allow a full +12 or more into the HEI, which it needs....

HI, What were your plans for the Tach.? Do you still have the mechanical tach.?
Also, in 1970, there is a pigtail wire connected to the fuse block under the dash, that provides 12V to the GM transistor ignition. If TI was installed, it was connected to this wire. If not, the wire should be just hanging there.
I think it's a pink wire.
You can use that for the HEI.

1970 -- you will need a 75-up electric tach to go with your HEI. The stock direct drive tacho won't work with the HEI unless you opt for an HEI tach drive conversion.

Thanks Mike that's what I figured.
Barry---I still am very far away from doing the engine swap. I want to time it so that I have as little Vette "down time" as possible. Right now the '70 still has a NOM 350 that will remain there until the swap.
