Default Question on NOS.

I have a major drop from 2nd to 3rd. I was thinking (again very dangerous :yesnod: ) that maybe I can use a small shot of NOS just after I shift to third to recover the rpms I lost. Is this feasible?
It didnt start out this way, but my car is a Sleeper( ) and I would like to try and keep it that way, so what kind of a system would I need? I know nothing about the NOS system so all the help and instructions I can get will be helpful
Thanks

Sleeper? I don't think too many people consider a vette a sleeper...

But the small shot of NOS isn't completely out of whack, but I wouldn't do it myself.. I'd rather do a new cam or different gears, or something along those lines. A halfway decent NOS setup would run you $400-500 anyhow, and you can do those other things for the same or less.

Actually a lot of people know about the "choked" vettes of '75-'82...I know a lot of people who know my 'vette didn't come with more then 200 HP in any option trim...so a hot motor would be a sleeper in my opinion. Expecally in a later year c3...

You would need a master mind setup... rev limiters, oil preasure kills, gas preasure kills...

If you have a holley carb... they make a nifty little device for a 75 hp shot... sits right under the aircleaner... Sleeper...

I'm thinking about linking a nitrous system to the kickdown on the trans... :reddevil wonder what kind of tire roasting could happen with that?

here are some things to consider for safety if you decide to spray it
dont rat me out for stealing the pictures:p:
Competition Motorsports Nitrous Switch....they havethem for holley, demons, and dominator carbs

Jacobs nitrous mastermind....as danielle77350 said

here is a description from jacobs web site:
The Nitrous Mastermind works by pulsing the nitrous solenoids at the onset of nitrous flow (which is adjustable) and gradually reducing the pulsing until the "full flow" setting is reached. Additionally, the Nitrous Mastermind monitors fuel pressure, engine RPM, and full throttle conditions (using a full throttle switch. Should a drop in fuel pressure occur, the Nitrous Mastermind immediately reacts and shuts off the nitrous flow, thereby protecting the engine from damage. The rev-limiter also protect the engine by shutting down the nitrous first then cutting out the ignition to progressively. This prevents a buildup of nitrous in the engine and exhaust that can cause damage when the ignition "cuts back in."

fuel pressure safety switch.....if you get the nitrous mastermind, it comes with one i believe

safety blow off cap and blow down tube.....

personally, i wouls stay away from it. ive seen nitrous go bad, and blow up a car. while its not flammable alone, it still can blow up in compressed form in a cannister. nos is just essentially a way to provide enough O2 for your engine to completely burn all your gas in the cylinder.. its not flammable alone. another thing, nos has to be injected at wot, or wide open throttle so injecting it in low rpms in 3rd gear may not be a good idea, im sure damage would result. you can get computer chips to let you add the nos in gradually to prevent damage, but its cheaper to find other ways to get more hp. anyways, gradually adding it doesnt help your immediate need for power in low third gear also, you have to have a high grade fuel so as to not plug the solenoids, i had to mix race gas and 94 octane from the pump. very expensive. you also need to check for the availability of nos in your area. i had nos in my drag car, and this is how i know all this. ultimately, i sold it cause you cant get nos around here as the only suppliers are for medical grade and will not sell it to you no matter how much you promise its for your car. i had to drive a long ways to get nos and it was expensive also. just my .02

A 75 to 100 shot is pretty safe. It's when you go looking for trouble is when you find it. You will not even feel a 50 shot. Eldebrock makes a good cost effective kit.
