I'm in the process of installing new weatherstripping and new pillar post mouldings on my Vette and I've encountered some light surface rust on the windshield frame. Any suggestions on this problem? Should I sand and paint the windshield frame with POR 15 or just touch up the spots where the rust is? Is there a better alternative? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.
Any chance you have to deal with and "stop" rust shouldn't be missed. Do whatever you can, where ever you can to get rid of this nasty stuff. Check with youl local automotive paint store and see what they say. If you don't do anything, it will only get worse.
Mine is in the shop right now getting the top frame and the 2 post corners replaced ... we all know C3's are notoriuos for rusting here but was told for some reason mid-years do not have this problem ... wonder why ???
I had some pillar post rust on my 77. The windshield had a chip in it and it needed replaced. When I had the windshield replaced I had them check the pillar post rust. They pulled the windshield and the upper dash pad. The pillar posts connect to the frame. I only had light surface rust but it was far enough down the posts that they had to remove the dash pad to get to it all. They sanded it and painted with POR 15. They also painted over my vin tag so you could not read some of the numbers. Had to call the highway patrol and told them that thay painted over the vin tag. They said to take it back and if they gave me any trouble about getting the paint off to call them back. Took it back and told them what the highway patrol told me and the guy told me he would fix it but he would not work on any more corvettes because the owners are to particular about their cars :mad So if you paint don't paint over the vin tag.
