1976 Rear End Noise
I have a 1976 L-48. When I drive down the street it sometimes has a thumping sound that seems to be from the rear end. Sometimes it is stronger than other times. It seems to go away at highway speeds.
Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.

Drifting
76-79 have 2 common problems. Due to a design change of the ring gears bolts they tend to back out and hit the case inside.
The other problem is the stub axles are very soft. When they wear down the ends of the u-joint u-bolts will hit the ears on either of the case. Either of these will cause a thumping sound. As mention before u-joints can also cause a thumping noise.
