Default Vacuum hose firewall grommet question

Can anyone who's dealt with this problem before tell me the easiest way to go about this?

I'm replacing my vacuum lines, and I want to get the new ones through the grommet without hacking it up, if possible. The old ones are not budging.

I can see that previous owners have bypassed this problem by cutting the hose and splicing the new lines into the firewall section. But I want to do it right and have one new hose from the lights to the headlight switch.

Thanks in advance, guys!

Hi C,
If you take the grommet out of the firewall it releases some of the pressure on the hoses. You can pull the old hose out and if you lubricate the new hose you can get it in place with a bit of pulling and pushing.
Some of the grommets have a 'split' at each hole to make it easy to get the hose in and out but I don't think the one in your picture does.
Regards,
Alan

Thanks for the reply, Alan.

How should I go about removing the grommet? I've tried pulling it out fron the engine compartment, and I've taken the dash half apart trying to get to the backside of it and knock it out, with no success.

test a spot of it to see how brittle it is. They can fall apart easily It may be easier to just cut the old lines and drill thru it for the new lines to fit or just replace it with new.

I think that one pushes through from the engine side to the cabin.
Take something dull and put it on the edge and push the lip down and through. Once you get one edge through the rest is easy.

Factory sealant was smathered all over these to stop water leaks. I'm guessing yours is being stubborn because of the old sealant.
