So I spent my obligatory 45 min trying to use the search function to answer this without luck.
Anyway, I want to unbubba my ignition and I'm looking for generic information on distributor. I have a windowless distributor (which leads me to think it's an old junkyard swap) and I just want to put in the most cost effective stock option. Just not sure what I need to replace. I.e. the whole thing (about $500?) or just the rotor (a lot less)
Model year of your Vette would be helpful, up to 1974 they had Delco cast iron tach drive distributor, after 75 aluminum HEI units. Late HEI's are cheap early distributors with tach drives can run some $$ in proper working order.
Be careful with after market HEI dizzys. They look great and have a decent tach drive gear. The electronics are ok but the advance weight pins are shoddy. Most are pressed in and they will eventually fall out - slinging weights and springs everywhere. Not a good thing. If you purchase one of these, go ahead and take it apart and have the weight pins tig welded in place (from the bottom), then you should be ok.
Good luck.
