I just replace the circuit board in my tach and reset the needle to zero (this is accomplished by supplying 12 volts to the tach and removing the needle and re attaching it at zero). It seems to work fine - I held it my hand and connected the wiring and revved the engine. The only issue is when I shut the car off - the needle goes down some but does not go back down to zero. If I turn the ignition back to the on position (upon the next start up, for instance) it will go back down to zero. Maybe this is the way it is supposed to be? It just seems odd to me that I can turn my car off and walk away and the tach still shows a reading. Do I have a faulty new circuit board?
Do you have a tach filter fitted? If not possibly getting a spike on the signal cable on shutdown???? Not sure really....If it works, I wouldnt be too concerned. Ive seen original tachs work like that.
If the board was faulty, it would probably not work at all or would drop off to zero from say 3000rpm.
Is this a Willcox board? If so, the customer service is second to none! Give Ernie a shout for some advice.
Excellent. Thanks guys! I'll leave it alone - BTW...it is one heck of a project getting that tach out and back into the dash! I am also replacing the bumpers - that hasn't been very easy either! It is not very easy to get to some of those hidden nuts on the front one!
The tach will store the last signal it has when you turn off the power... Until the key is turned back on at which time it will then fall to zero until started.
