Default turn signal clicker

Not sure how else to describe it. The thing that clicks when you have your blinker on.... My 72 does not click. Should it click? if so where does this part go and how should I trouble shoot it.

Thanks

Turn Signal Flasher.

Check for burnt light bulbs. You need all the lights working for the flasher to function properly.

All the bulbs work I just don't have a clicking sound as I would expect a car to have.

Do the signals work and you just cant hear them or do they not work at all. Do the signal indicators on the dash light or blink?

Yep the bulbs blink as do the dash indicators. Just no sound.

Where is this located? So the flasher provides the sound?

TIA

The 'flasher' module is simply a bi-metallic strip switch that passes the current to those bulbs. As current flows, that strip heats up and when hot enough, it trips and breaks the circuit. With current no longer flowing, the strip cools and reconnects. The heating cycle and the cooling cycle take about 1 second each...hence the blinking. The sound is made when that strip makes/breaks contact. Some units are louder than others. There are also some solid-state flasher modules which make no sound.

Interesting. So the flasher I have is working properly but maybe the sound is to faint or it was designed to make no sound at all?

ETA... So I just checked and I can hear a very faint clicking sound. Its so faint however it would be very hard to hear when the car was running. O well I guess it is what it is.

I replaced mine about two weeks ago. The flasher was wearing with time and was cycling too quickly. It was pretty quiet.

The new one flashes properly and clicks quite audibly.

If you prefer to hear the click these units run only about $3.99. Readily available from NAPA and the like.

Yea I have a running list of items at eckler's that I need to order and I already added one of these to the list. Still have some other small things to verify on the car then once I have all the parts I need I'll just place one order.

Thanks
