Default Please review these 73 Corvette projects

So there are two '73 vette projects here around DFW, that are about in the same condition, and price. Im thinking about after getting my '75 parts car parted out, i would try to get one of these cheap. Here are the links.

http://dallas.craigslist.org/ndf/cto/2006644699.html

http://dallas.craigslist.org/ftw/cto/1980429844.html

I know that they both need body work, which I am willing to learn how to do. Everything else that they need I have already done to my car. Im just looking for anything that I might have missed.

The plan would be to get one for about 2K, and then over the course of a few years put about another 8K and have a nice chrome bumper driver. I mean I'm 21, so having a perfect C3 isn't what I want. I just like to drive them to much. Tell me what you think?

RUN!!!! On a serious note, they both need extensive work. Not my cup of tee. To far gone. To me they are just parts car's.

Ha, well unlike some Corvette owners, I like to work on my cars. They just don't seem like mine until I've done a lot to them. I mean I do know my way around these cars...

Hey if you want to dive in go for it. But maybe, just maybe there might be a better candidate around the corner. You know as well as I vettes suck your $$ and time. Yeah they can be brought back to life. But how long realistically will it take? Do you have the time? Do you want to spend that time on it? Will you get bored half way through? Just questions.

They do suck money and time, but to me my time isn't worth that much yet, and money, well that can be spread out over a few years. I mean I already have a DD vette. As for getting bored half way through, maybe, but then again I always have my brothers '79 to work on.

I have put a few pros and cons together on the cars.
Car #1 (green)
Pros:
Supposed strong running engine
NIB Gas Tank
NIB Brake System
4-speed
Brand new tires
Clear title
Dash/Interior all complete.

Cons:
Crazy bad body work needed (i need to learn that anyways)
Interior (Seats) need redone, but thats at the end of my list
Non #s matching motor
Cracked windshield
Needs paint

Car #2 (Blue?)
Pros:
350ci engine (original engine)
4-speed
New Brake calipers in boxes
New Gas tank - already installed
New Windshield
Not as much body work needed

Cons:
Needs paint
Needs front bumper cover
Interior gutted...
Needs New plugs and a distributer
Needs an AC Compressor
Needs a Battery
Needs Exhaust
Needs Brake pads
Needs Tires

Do you really care about matching #'s. You are going to be putting alot of parts into it that may not be matching. As for tires= are they new now? or new when put in storage? As for engine, do a compression test to prove it's good.

If rust is not an issue on either car, and #2 has a clear title, I'd lean toward #2 IF the engine is really original. There would have to be some pretty serious "negotiation" on the price for either car... like half off.... though. They both need serious love, but are way more complete than what I started with.

IMHO, I do not think that your 8K budget, could finish either of those cars. I would look further and pass, on those two for know. Just my.02

I also think that the #2 car as #1 has been pulled. Has 97,000 miles on it. have at least 6000 in mine on top of buying it and the Guy I bought it from who took it apart to fix it up, had put 8000 into it. Mine still needs body work and paint. I would think You could make thye car driveable for 5000 to 8000 but still need paint and body work. On the other hand if You were willing and had the place for it to sit. Slowly puting it back together over Years it ay worth somewhat closer to what You have in it when its done? It would be a shame to see this car not saved as well. I also like the fact that the 73's have the chrome rear bumper and the flared wheel wells. That give them the best shape of all the bumper cars.

Well here is the thing, I can do all teh body work/prep work, thats no problem. then I would just shoot it with some cheap paint in my garage. I dont need perfect paint nor do I want it. We wil see what happens...
