My 77 sat a while before I got it and I'm having a recurring problem with the door latches not catching. I go to shut the door and it wont latch, I have to hold the latch down and pull the door handle to "pop" it to get it to shut.
Wishin4A, I recommend just purchasing a new set. Pulling off and cleaning seems to me IMO it really doesn't work in the majority of times (I know all some FEW cases it does VERY FEW). I did the same thing cleaning Lubing straighning and all that stuff. It would work for awhile but again in a few months I was back in tearing things apart again. Finally bought new ones for both sides (THE GOOD ONES) and haven't had a problem in nine years. Expensive I know but better than fixing wore out stuff which will contiune to fail. These latches for your car are 33 years old and weren't ment to last even that long. Oh yea check the lock post like Easy Mike says, but I tell ya its the latches. My 2 cents for all its worth.
Thanks for the advice guys, I really will look into replacing them. The car was a driver when I bought it but had it's share of issues, rather than due a full on resto I've been fixing and replacing as I go, seems to make my wife think the cash lasts longer.
