Default C-3 Birdcage area

Normally I'm over in the C-2 area. Are there any places to look for rust in the window frame and birdcage area ? Is this similar to a C-2?

Don't know my C2s, but the C3 points I know are at the kicker panels in the cabin, the access panel in front of the rear wheels, and the window & t-top areas once the trim panels are removed.

Default I found some rust...what to do???

I feel like a dick. I thought I checked this car over very thoroughly before buying it. I looked everywhere I could look and I didn't see any rust until I got it home and started ripping it apart. Everything looks good except behind drivers side kick panel. Rusted to hell!! What can be done about that?? Not looking to do a frame off. Cars in fairly decent shape otherwise. Original engine, only 35k documented. Been sitting for some time. Looking for serious suggestions. The rest of the cage is fine...just drivers side front.

Well, its rusting because water is getting in there. It is going to be coming in through the windshield frame on the drivers side somewhere, but most likely its coming in through the lower WS frame corner. It has a bonding piece rived to it that holds on the upper fender, or the rear edge of the hood surround. The corner is not treated for rust and the water just sits there between the fiberglass mount and the metal corner and does its thing.
Looks like this

It can be fixed, its a lot of work

Surface rust is one thing, rust through is another. Lots of good material on this topic in the Search feature. I was lucky enough to have a small spot on the left upper windshield frame the size of an pencil eraser tip.

A good sand blast of the frame and hinge pillars brought this bird cage right around. I cleaned and prepped the hole for 'lead' fill and have had excellent results. A bit of research will show what you have as compared to others. Good luck.

Like the guys above have said, if you have more than surface rust you have a leak somewhere up the line, firewall, windscreen etc, that needs to be resolved before you repair the door pillar, if its showing signs of rust you may have other areas rotting as well, if you plan on keeping the car i would at the very least remove the windscreen and check the frame, the top and bottom corners are vunerable, once you know/have the screen and frame sealed the area around the kick panels, this is also the area where number 2 mount resides so it needs to be a good repair. I dont see a way of welding the area without damaging the surrounding fibreglass, there are repair peices pre-shaped but you will need to list the body at the very least.
