Hey guys, I'm in college right now, but when I graduate I'd like to restore a Stingray Vette and just kinda have it as a cruising type car. I was wondering which years were the best as far as which engine came stock and all that stuff. I'll probably mod it a little and race it, but mostly its just going to be a cruising car. Also I'd like the targa top or convertable. So if you guys could let me know which years I should look at that would have all the stuff I listed and be good, lemme know. Thanks :D
Oh and also, I'd like the ones w/ the flip up headlights. I don't like the 80 (saw one in someone else's sig) one where the headlights are just built in. Kinda destroys the lines of the car imo.
they all have flip up lights. What you saw is a custom modification. All vettes are great for cruisin, it depends what your preferences are. If your lookin for HP rating etc. this is a pretty good site http://www.neptune.k12.nj.us/nhs/his...te/index.html.
Let me know when you find your vette, and if u ever need a hand on it (live nearby).
Unless customized, all 68-82 vettes have the flip-up headlights. If you want my opinion, the '69 is the best of the C3 vettes for many reasons. This was the year of eight engine options, five transmission options etc. The 68-82 coupes all had T-tops. Chevrolet quit building the convertible on this generation after 1975. The early cars (68-69) could be ordered with 427's. The 70-74 cars could be ordered with 454's. The 69-80 cars had various high performance 350s as options (L46, L82). In 70-72, Chevrolet offered a special high performance 350 called the LT-1.
In '73 they replaced the chrome front bumper with a rubber nose. In '74, the rear bumper was made rubber. In '78, the Corvette received a new large rear window- (fastback). The later cars (75-82) are filled with comfort and convenience options but were down a bit on power. The '82 was fuel injected.
As you can see this generation has a lot of variables you need to consider when buying one. I just gave you a very brief summary. If you have more specific questions, please ask. I would suggest getting a copy of the Corvette Black Book. It will answer most of your questions. You can get it at most book stores and costs around $12.00.
Wow, thanks for the info guys. From the pictures I'd say that I'd probably like a '75-'80. Which automatic tranny is the best? Or do they all have the same one? I have another thread open asking if it's possible to stuff a LS6 in a stingray. I'd like to have the car fuel injected, but I've heard bad stuff about the crossfire injection Vette's. I'll probably stuff an LT4 (maybe LT5!! :D) in if I can't put a LS6 in one. Keep the info coming guys, thanks! :seeya
I would recommend a Vert for sure for Re-Sale value and since u like the 75-82 u may wanna consider the 75 vert as an option...Alwo they were the lowest production run of the Covertible Stingrays and last vert stingray and can be easily modded. :smash:
