Passenger side window is loose. Took panel off and the front vertical rail bolt/pin is missing the nut. Yikes, how do I get to all that? It looks like I should first remove the cushions, then can I unbolt both vertical rails and pull out the whole window and mechanism? What connects the "regulator" to the horizontal bar? I also need to tighten up the mirror nuts, the whole mirror is loose. I am thinking since the nut is gone, it is a special nut that actually touches the glass so it must have some kind of protector on it. Guess get one online. While I have all this tore up, what should I replace while I am in there? Any tricks to doing any of this?
Dave, are you removing the window or just tighting the window? If you just need to tighten the window you shouldn't have to remove it just a line the window bolts with the hole in the metal part of the door for the front. The rear one should be accessable with the window fully down for the rear. Just reach through with a socket & extension. The nut can be found in about all Corvette parts catalogs. If you wish to remove the window there are a lot more steps. If you can get a AIM it will show you better how to remove the window. It will also tell you how to realine the window with the window seals. Just read the assembly line notes they make it pretty easy. There is quite a lot of steps though if you are removing the window. The regulator is attached to the door at the window motor it is one unit by three bolts. The mirror can be tightened when you remove the mirror from the car. There is a rubber mount that expands underneath the mounting plate that need to be tightened. Sorry about long post good luck.

I am trying to do two things at once I guess. One is fix the mirror. It is mounted and works, it is just loose. The main mirror housing that attaches to the stem is loose. I say stem, it is the part that is between the mirror body/housing and the door. Then it is loose at the door. I see two nuts inside the door that attach the mirror, But, one of them is behind the glass, that is when I roll the window all the way down. When I roll it all the way up, the horizontal bar is in the way. That is why I am looking to remove the window, unless there is another way to get to the mirrow nuts without removing the glass.
Secondly, the window itself is loose. The front nut is missing. I guess I could replace just the nut, but I dont know the condition of the pin that the nut connects to that rides in the vertical rail. That is another reason I was looking to remove the window. Maybe I am making this harder than it is. So can you fix the loose mirror without removing the window and can you put the nut on the front rail without removing the window? I do have a service manual, and yes, there are a lot of steps to pulling the window. I dont have a problem doing that, but was curious if there are any tricks the service manual does not go into.
Loose mirrors (the adjustable part, not the base) are common. An easy fix is to dab a few drops of red loctite on the ball part, swivel the mirror to spread the loctite around, then position the mirror where you want it, and let the loctite set up. The other option is to remove the glass from the mirror, use something to squeeze the socket tight around the ball, but this has minimal success. The loctite is quick and fast.
The window is a PITA to completely disassemble. I wouldn't do it unless you have to, then I would replace all the plastic pieces. Zip and Willcox have window repair kits that have all you would need. For now, replace the nut. It is a standard US thread nut, probably 1/4" or 5/16", and see if that works. Any window adjustments can then be made without removing anything!

Dave just as billsfan says if the treaded part of the window where the nut tightens is stripped then need to replace the part with new treaded mount. This will require removal of the window. Unless you can bend really well. But not saying it isn't impossible to replace while glass still in door. just my 2 cents.

I removed the windows on my 78 without the aims. Wasn't that hard to figure out. I'd suggest going ahead and removing it so you can clean and lube it up. If it is anything like what mine was, it needed it.
Or you could do it the easy way....open door, roll window up, tap with ball peen hammer, close door and drive away. Just don't drive in the rain!
