Default Winter storage advice

I'm a new vette owner, ready to store my 72 vert for the winter.
I plan to have the tank full of gas, maybe add Sta-Bil and have dryer sheets ( bounce) inside to keep any possible rodents away in the storage building. I have a custom car cover and will tarp as well.

What else should I do? Any other suggestions?

Fog the intake and cylinders with Fogging oil would be another good idea. Change oil and filter. Wash and wax.

I overinflate the tires to 40lbs to prevent flat spots. A battery tender would be another suggestion.

Default Store or Drive

Change the oil,
Wash and Wax,
Full tank of gas,
Seafoam in the gas,
Dryer sheets,
Disconnect the battery or us a good battery tender,
Cover and leave it till spring, check for water and rodents,

Or move to California and drive it all year!

Good luck and welcome to the Forum.

I'm near Boston and just not ready to put away yet!

Think after the first snow ;-)

I change the oil, clean car, hook battery tender up, then put away the key...

I live near Erie, PA, so similar winters to Boston. I have not found a storage location yet, somewhat scarce nearby. If needed, I can park it in our garage and keep a close eye on it. I have heard sta-bil, no sta-bil but clearly plan to top off the gas tank.

I plan to disconnect the battery and keep at home.

The keys will be where I can touch 'em every day.

If storage is a dirt floor elsewhere, I plan to put a tarp down to park on and the dryer sheets for rodent control.

Never fogged before, can somebody elaborate?

Thanks for the advice everyone.

Check the anti-freeze level.

I also throw down a sheet of plastic on the cement floor to keep moisture away and also to catch any leaks. I use sta-bil, pull the battery, and use moth *****. Thats about it.

Default Fogging Spray

While engine is running remove air filter cover.
Make sure you shake the can of spray before using.
Spray a generous amount into the carb till engine almost stalls....repeat until you see grey smoke coming out of your exhaust.....turn engine off....your done ! Note...this will be the last time your engine runs till spring.

Default She's fogged

Thanks for the fogging advice. I got a can of fogging oil and she's put away for the winter. I found good storage with a cement floor (covered with a tarp). I have lots of dryer sheets inside and around her, topped off the gas and put sta-bil in her.

I hated putting her away, but we are getting 6-12inches of snow today so just in the nick of time. I have attached a few pictures if you are interested.

Wow, shes a beaut ! Another small storage tip I don't think anyone mentioned.... I keep my 4 speed in neutral and don't use the parking brake as the cable stretches over time.....get some wheel chocks

I'm not sure if I should store with the top down or up. I have it up now and I was thinking about taking it down, but did not want any critters to get inside even though I have plenty of dryer sheets around.

Any thoughts on top up or down for the winter?

Why did you specifically say you'd fill the gas tank up? When I store a vehicle, I drive it until the tank has very little fuel. That way when I start it up to drive it for the first time after storage I can fill with fresh gas. Just my opine.

Nice looking '72.

I've never owned a convertible anything but...I'd leave the top up. IMHO stretched-out would be better than folded for the fabric and particularly the plastic rear window.

What year is your car? On my '70, you can't get the key out unless the trans is in reverse. In order to store in neutral, I would have to leave the key in the ignition. Not that I would freak out about that, but I would prefer not to. If the OP decides to do that, make sure to chock one or more wheels on both sides so the car doesn't roll where you don't want it. Instead, I just store in reverse with the key out and the parking brake off.

It is probably better to store with the top up, but mine is down at the moment.

Thanks for the advice on the vert top.

BTW I lived in winters similar to yours near Watertown in the tug hill plateau. I am in Erie, PA now and people freak about the 75 inches of snow we get a year.

We got that much in one 24 hour period (actually 77 inches) in a small place 7 miles from my former home called Montague.

It's great to hear from my Canadian Corvette brothers to the north.

She's a bryar blue '72. I always park in reverse, but I think the key can come out when the engine is off....but I may be wrong.

BTW thanks for the advice.

I hear ya about the winters here. I'm in Syracuse, about 45min South of Watertown. It's been snowing since Saturday, we've received 2+ feet of snow in two days with another 1+ foot by tomorrow morning. Calling for snow every day until next Monday!
