Default Rear Sway Bar Bushing Install

I need advice how to install Prothane poly bushings in the rear sway bar and the links of my '77. Removed the old dried up rubber bushing, but the new poly has an outer ridge that doesn't seem to want to fit into the link. The inside diameter of the bushing is the same. Should I remove the sway bar? All advice will be appreciated.

Hi Jed,

I just installed my new ones last week. I am convinced that they are indeed the wrong size, however you can make them fit. I used various sockets both large and small, a large bench vice and a sharp craft knife. Now carve a bevel on one side of the bushes, use grease on this side and using sockets press the bush in to the links and bar with the vice, it is an incredible tight fit, once in it will be deformed a little, then press in the centre metal tube and it pops back in to shape, I then had to use the knife trim off some excess poly to make it fit in the links. Doesnt look too pretty but they are firm and will work well once re-assembled. Oh and yes, you need to remove the sway bar, good time to grease the rubber bar bushes anyway, its only four bolts.

Hope that helps, Dennis.
