Where can I source a new frame-to-engine block ground strap?
My engine block ground strap is toast - can I buy one or can someone recommend someone that can make me up one??? Thick, stranded copper wire with black insulation and big, crimped-on ends for the bolt attachments.
You can make it with parts from Tractor Supply or NAPA. Also big truck dealers will have or can make those (Peterbilt, Kenworth, Freightliner, International, etc.)
I found Autozone to have a good selection. I always get the (numerically) smallest gauge I can find for the specific application. Meaning, the higher the # gauge of the wire, the more flexible it is.
The battery "aisle" usually has what you need. With different terminated lugs, too!
Is that the one that goes to the passenger side motor mount? Mine was in a similar condition, and I got a replacement right off the rack at Advanced Auto.

got mine at target, it is maybe 4 inches too long, but so what... better than twice the price plus shipping for one at the covette parts houses.. i am sure napa or autozone will have something close too.
my car started and ran and charged fine without it anyway even before I replaced it... I am sure other grounds in the system take up the current needing to pass thru anyway.
You shouldn't alter the size of the wire for flexibility. The wire size is defined by the amount of current it needs to carry. So, don't mess with the #2 gauge wire (you can go larger, of course...#0 or #00...but not necessary). The flexibility is enhanced by the number of strands in the wire..the more strands in a particular size of wire, the more flexible it is. Stay with #2 copper wire. Welding cable is very flexible, as it is constructed of lots of little strands of wire.
