Default SS Exhaust - Headers Back

I'm looking to install a new exhaust system on my '74 that I'm currently restoring. I have a set of Headman headers on the engine now and was looking to go with high quality stainless steel from there back. Was wondering what others may have installed in their cars..... opinions on fit, finish, quality, performance and sound would be greatly appreciated.

If you happen to have a picture of your installation that would be great too.

Thanks

Since you live in cold climate and may want to drive it throughout the year, stainless steel might be advisable for you. It is more expensive, but it will last much longer in your environment. If you were in a more southern locale and/or did not drive it in rain or inclement weather, aluminized pipes might be fine. But, I think you choice of stainless would be best.

You could go with a stainless chambered system from Allen's stainless in Logansport, IN. When I finally get the money (looking for a house right now so that may take a while), that is what I will be doing. Sounds close to a midyear with sidepipes.

Allen's makes the system that should bolt rigth up to the headers.

I bought a chambered system from Allen's and the thing I did not like as I was bolting it up was that there are no mufflers in the back - only a 2-1/2" pipe. so it looked kind of nude. I opted for their stock system instead. Go to Corvette Central and read their assessment of SS versus alumanized pipes. I am not installing SS exhaust on my car for all those reasons + cost.

I went aluminzed and then coated with POR15 high-temp aluminum paint. Being in Wisconsin, climate is rough on pipes.

Stainlessworks has complete 304SS exhaust system for C2/3 Vette I don't care for collector design and ground clearnce isn't anything to write home about but, they are about the only game in town.

I've posted this several times, but Magnaflow makes a really nice SS system that is different from the one that you can buy from Corvette Central. It has an X-pipe and polished mufflers. Here are some pics and a video. The system doesn't sound like a conventional twin exhaust due to the x-pipe, and the LS1 doesn't sound the same as a gen1 350 so you have to use your imagination a bit.
