Anyone have it installed or any comments. I have no vacuum to open or close the lights anymore since I hooked up a new charcoal canister, best thing I have done in a long time too, Vette doesn't stink anymore.
Lot of money. You could see if McSpeed still has some Killer Lights brackets available. Total cost for that even with new parts is about $600, cheaper if you get used motors.
One note is that with the linear actuators, there is no manual mode if you have an actuator failure.
Dangit!!!! I had put together sketches some time back about using linear actuators to do this job some time back - believe me the parts can be had significantly cheaper than their selling price - the actuators for this use probably can be had for between 50-100.
The only hard part (if your not an electrician) is putting together the relay system to signal the up/dn stroke of the actuator.

Why would hooking up a new charcoal canister cause you to no longer have vacuum?
Dang thats alot of money. How much is a vacuum pump ?
Has anyone tried an add on compressor and then using pressure rather than vacuum to move the actuators ?

I have a 600HP small block with over 250 duration cam. So there isn't much vacuum to begin with. I have all new hoses, redid the whole headlights last year. I have hydroboost brakes so I am running only headlights and a PCV system and that is all the vacuum I have can handle.
The addition of the charcoal canister was enough of burden on the poor vacuum I had ( the charcoal canister has a vent ) that now the headlights don't work.
I don't feel like piecing together a system and would like something that has every part I need. I have seen the McSpeed headlights in action and it is a pretty slick deal
Thats A LOT of money for a couple of 6" electric actuators and some wires and relays. You can make a forune in no time if you buy the parts and sell that kit yourself for that much money.

The stock system if tight will operate on 5".
I might think about am electric vacuum pump. I don't know anyone who has installed one or had success with one but since it will not be used to operate the brakes I should probably look into it.
If anyone knows a good type of pump for this application it would be appreciated
I agree that the electrically operated headlights are cool....but the price!
An electric vacuum pump is a much cheaper solution. The Summit unit is the same unit sold by a Canadian company called CVR. They are in Ontario. You might be able to get it cheaper direct from them.
A friend of mine has been using the CVR unit for years with no problems.
How do you have your charcoal canister hooked up? I only ask because it shouldn't change the way your exhaust smells, it's purpose is to collect, store, and then release gas vapors from the gas tank to then be burned by the engine.

My exhaust still smells the same, it is normal. My canister was never hooked up and vapors from the tank stunk up my garage. All I know is I bought a older model canister with only a inlet port from the tank and an outlet port to my PCV and now my garage doesn't stink anymore
I don't think I need a vacuum pump as elaborate as the CVR pump, that keeps the vacuum up all the time. I just need a simple one that can be hooked directly to the headlight hoses

Ah, that makes sense with the canister now.
As for the pump, it only turns on when the vacumm drops below 15 in. If you use it only for the headlights, and you use a vacuum reservoir and a good one-way check valve, it will hardly ever come on.

You could use both the engine and small pump,do you still have a tank ?

Yes I still have the coffee can I fixed it last year so it doesn't leak. I make no where near 15 in of vacuum so these pumps would be on all the time. They are mainly a solution for power brakes. I just need something small and cheap to open and close my headlights.
My system probably still isn't perfect and most likely still leaks a bit. The addition of the canister made what vacuum I had not enough to open and close the lights. The canister has a vent and that creates a leak in the system. I plugged the vent and the motor ran like crap but the lights worked So I unplugged the vent.
