Razor blades!!! Thats what I used anyway. Heard too many horror stories about stripper, but guys use it so it must be safe. Do a search, there's lots threads on it.

I used stripper but it is messy and smelly. I don't think that I could finish it using razor blades. I get bored too soon.

I used Capt'n Lee's Spra-strip. Available from corvette central. Had great luck with it.

I used razor blades, always keep them sharp, throw them away frequently and use new ones quit often. I have also used Capt. Lees, works great, just have lots of water with you and rinse often to neutralise the chemical reaction, remember to just do small areas at a time, and you will have great sucess!!!

I also used Capt'n Lee's. 5 years after the car was painted, I've had no problems with the paint from using the stripper. Just be sure to follow the directions as far as neutralizing the stripper after it's done it's work and you too won't have any problems. I would recommend it to anyone asking.

I used razor blades and highly recommend it. I was afraid of the nicks at first but in about 10 minutes you get the hang of it. I also recommend using a heat gun just ahead of the razor blade to warm up the paint, it releases MUCH MUCH easier and quicker. I did my hood in about 20 minutes right down to bare material, when you're done you can just vacuum up the paint shavings. Stripper is a mess!! I tried it on a spot near the vents on the fenders just to see how it worked. I was much happier with the razor blade method.

Default Razor blades!!!

I used razor blades to strip my 81 ...get a box (100) and some good holders of various sizes, I also used a heat gun on low ...at a distance to soften up the paint , take your time and ENJOY it ( I used my 2 kids as slave labor....if they wanna borrow the vette they gotta help!!) Its not that long a deal and you will know your car intimately !!
And never have to worry " Did I get all the stripper off ???"
Good Luck.

So what are we looking at here, one beer per razor blade?

I just want to be prepared for when I start stripping mine.

I find it quicker and a lot more fun to strip with razor blades. A lot cheaper too. Wear safety glasses. Paint will be flying everywhere once you get the hang of it.

Marty.

Hey Mark, I wish I saw your thread sooner. I am in the same town as you and just finished stripping my friends 69 for him this morning. I used the chemicals on it, Capt'n Lee's and on my 68 this past summer and a 65 I used to own. Never had any problems with it. Bring that 73 around !

How long does it take after all emblems, etc are removed from the car to strip it? I know door jams and tight areas will take the longest.
