Default What gives here

Hi everyone, I have the steering column out of my 71 to replace the rag joint. I purchased a Dorman 31011 unit to put in, but it does not want to go on the input shaft on the steering box. According to the supplier it should fit everything from 69 up. It looks like the spline is a little coarser on the new joint. Are there different splines on some boxes?

I can't be sure if the box has been changed, but it sure looks original. It has the flat on one side. I thought all the boxes had the same spline.

they should have the same spline but maybe you were given the wrong rag joint see if they have another and compare it

I wish I could, but they ordered this one in for me. I will return it and try again.
Thanks Jack

The rag joint is a pretty important part of the steering system. I'd spend the extra $ and get a genuine GM part from one of the forum vendors.
