Default Looking for Dash Ideas

My dash is in great shape -- no cracks or tears, except for over the driver's side speaker. Part of it has disintegrated and the rest is very brittle. I'd rather not shell out $300+ for a new one (not to mention the labor involved), so I was looking for ideas on how to "fix" it. I'd be happy just putting a speaker cover over it, but the one's that came with the speakers don't fit very well.

Does anyone have any other suggestions or ideas?

Thanks,
Jim

I guess its going to depend on how "picky" you are about the inside of your car.

If it were me, Id get creative. For a "budget repair"... Id trim out the entire mesh looking area right above the speaker where it would create a hole. Then, Id go to a junk yard and find a old GM dash that was similar and use what I cut out of my dash as a template for how much I needed, cut it out and use to patch the hole.

From there you could create a support from the bottom of the dash that the new patch would rest on. Carefully glue in place and no one will know but you.

Just as a heads up, if you dont have interior dye from corvette america, get yourself a can to spray what you cut out of the other dash.

My money says you can get it done!

Cost of new dash pad - $300+
Cost of dye & Junk Yard part - $25 at most (Its $16 for the dye)
