Default Upholstry Help

I am thinking of doing a 2 tone custom interior (black & silver).

I want to get the best materials for the job. I am looking for a metallic like silver leather (light grey that sparkles).

Does anyone know where I might get this type of leather (I had a source; but they went out of business)?

What thickness should I be looking for?

Would vinyl be acceptable (sounds cheap to me)?

TIA

Theres no reason you couldn't use vinyl if that's all you could find. Take a look at the corvette venders, they usually have leather and vinyl seat covers and you can get an idea of how vinyl would compare.

As far as what you are looking for, have you tried some upholstery shops to see if they can get it for you?

Check around your local shops. The prices on vette seat covers seem high compared to other cars. There's a pretty good chance one of your local shops has the patterns for your year vette and you can get a material sample before you buy.
Oh yeah, you might suggest a drawstring rather than the clips for the seat bottom. They're easier to compensate for old crushed foam.

Default Update

I was hoping to learn what it is I want in terms of the seat cover material specifications.

My concern is that I want good stuff (not like what GM used on the C5 seats - After a few years they are full of cracks).

I know thickness of leather is important; but don't know how much is enough.

I assume that: Faux Leather = Vinyl & Naugahyde = vinyl

But I don't know what to look for.

I want to deal with a local shop; but I hate to walk in cold and get burned.
