Pittman arm install.
I found a small ridge of metal on the pittman arm spline.
I was evenly distributed so I'm sure it was going on straight. The splines on the gearbox seem fine. So I tried again with remanufactured pittman arm I had laying around and got the exact same thing. So I gently filed off the metal ( from the remanufactured p-arm) with a thread file and tried again and got it to go about 5/8th of the way. I pulled it off and got another ridge of metal. It come's off without a ton of effort. I can do this few more times and probably get it all the way on, but hand filing the splines seems like a bad idea. I can use an impact wrench
(hopefully I won't explode my $16 1 5/16 socket which is not rated for an impact wrench). Is this typical? It's been so long since I've changes a pittman arm I can remember how much trouble I had. But the metal ridge can't be good.
Suggestion?
