Re: What is your normal operating temperature on your Vette? (Alwyn678)
Warms up to 180 and stays there. Never been over that. Even in 100*+ temps in bumper to bumper traffic. Found a good deal on an aluminum Be-Cool radiator when I needed to replace the brass one. My car can go anywhere now.
Re: What is your normal operating temperature on your Vette? (Brutus)
Mine sticks pretty steady around 190, although, it hasn't seen a hot summer day yet.
And I will definitely not be pulling out the A/C! Even if the tops are down, I don't like to be dripping wet when I get to my destination... New Orleans humidity isn't very forgiving. ;)

Alwyn, how's that converter working with that cam?
It is a perfect match...thanx...It launches nice and hard (even with the 3;08's) and really shifts crisp and hard....Converter is a LOT of BANG for the Buck Plan on taking her to the track in a month or so so I can let you know what I run
Re: What is your normal operating temperature on your Vette? (Alwyn678)
I am 95% sure that I have the wrong thermostat. Mine goes right up to the redline on warmup and then comes back down. You can see it when the thermostat opens (a 180) and then it sits rock steady at something like 210.
Anyone have the same intake and have the correct thermostat? This is the second I have tried. Unfortunately, it has been a while so I can't remember what they were. :jester
Re: What is your normal operating temperature on your Vette? (still-learning)
The only way I know is to look between the mounting bolts for flat 'pads' Stewar cast these flat pads in so they can be tapped for extra cooling. GM pumps don't have them.
Another thing is the installer may have blocked the bypass hole with the gasket...People do this because the bypass hole causes the engine to run cooler on the drivers side than the passengers side.
The fix to all of this is to drill three 1/4" holes in the thermostat, this allows water to circulate even when the thermostat is closed...
