I am installing a complete new rear wiring harness. I have found two seperate ground wires but am not sure where they go. I am pretty sure the first one and longest goes to the frame on the left rear of the car, and I believe the one kind of in the center is attached to the license plate light. Any one have any pix of this or is sure, please let me know
This is for a 69 coupe. I have replaced all the wiring and when I disassembled (2006) I took lots of pix, but,not a good one of this area. Also, the frame was powder coated, do I need to scrape off an area were it will ground to the frame?
Hi 69,
In 71 the ground connection loops from light to light.
There is a ground connection to the inside of the left frame rail about 8" from the rear crossmember.
The ground connection near the end of the harness is for the fuel gauge sending unit on my 71.
Not sure about your 69.
My frame is powder coated too, and I just make sure the bolt/screw threads are biting the bare metal.
Regards,
Alan
The AIM and GM Chassis Service Manual are your friends.
My fuel gage sender only two connections, one spade and one rubber boot looking thing you just push on.,no place for ground wire. The 69 does have 4 grounds that are grounded at the lights. I looked last night at the Assy Manual, it appears that the center one does ground at the license plate light. I also am trying to find out where to ground the radio antenna. I know it attaches to the grounding plate, but then is there a spot on the frame for the other end, and will any ground strap work or is it a special one? How about one more, I removed the stock exhaust and added Hooker Side pipes, what do I do about the two frame to exhaust grounds that were stock?
Hi,
The original ground for the antenna is a flat copper (?) strap about 3/8" wide and is bolted to the outside of the rear frame rail.
I'd say you have to do away with the exhaust grounds since the clamps they attach to are gone.

Alan
