Console light not working?

Console light not working?
Was missing the socket on console shifter light. I put a new socket on & new bulb. Still no light. Is there a ground problem? What to check now?

The console light works off the same circuit as the dash lamp bulbs. Are they working? If yes then maybe the ground is off the plate?
Did you test the circuit before you installed it to make sure the bulb connector and bulb are working properly?

Dash lights all work. How is the light grounded?

Do you have a metal console trim plate? If so, there should be a ground terminal on the underside of the plate at the top of the ashtray. The AIM shows it, but it's easy to miss.
It's a simple spade terminal, but it grounds the trim plate. The console wiring should have a black ground wire with a spade connector in it.
