Default Antenna and ground plate question

I am installing a new ground plate and radio antenna on a 69 coupe. Does the little "nubs" on the fat part of the antenna, fit into the U shaped pieces of the ground plate. The ground plate I have, they are two different depths, not even.I don't have any pix when I took apart. Anything else beside the antenna plug, hold up the grounding plate to the inner fender? Does the antenna ground strap go to the frame with the ground from the rear lamp assembly? Assembly Manual not very clear as usual.

i'm not sure what you mean about the "nubs", but the unit only can be assembled one way. the exterior screw cap is the only thing that holds the plate in place. the ground strap attaches to the frame( i didn't have a strap, so i used a 10 gauge wire).

jnb..The actual plug part at the end of the black antenna cable, it has two raised "Nubs" If they don't fit into the two slots in the ground plate, what would keep you from sticking the plug part all of the way through the body of the car? I wish I had a pix to show you, my only concern is the two recepticle things on the grounding plate are not even and it looks like it would make the antenna plug part sit crooked. The old ground plate I am replacing had these slots and they were even

it's been a while, but. does your grounding plate have the heavy metal reinforcement where the antenna attaches? the two "nubs" fit into cut-outs in ears on the reinforcement plate. i remember that i had to slightly bend the ears inward(after-market chinese junk) to make it fit properly. also, make sure you have the ground plate turned correctly.

Hi dp,
In 71 the antenna ground strap mounts to the outside of the frame rail and the lighting harness ground to the inside of the rail.
Maybe the same in 69?
Regards,
Alan

Yes, it does have the reinforcement..It came from ecklers. It makes sense to put the nubs inthe cut outs, it's just that they are not even. i am sure I can file or grind to get even enough. I didn't know there was a ground spot on the inside of the frame, although, I hadn't looked either, shouldn't be a problem to ground rear lamp harness and radio to the same one should it?

Hi dp,
On my 71 the grounding tail for the rear harness is short and thus wouldn't reach the antenna ground, (it much closer to the rear crossmember). But, if yours reaches, I'd think it would work fine.
Regards,
Alan

Default Ground strap screws

What kind of screws do you use to attached the strap to the frame and the ground plate?
