Default exhaust X pipe

I've got dual exhaust on my 78. I'm considering a X pipe. Where did you cut yours in? Did it change the sound? How much did you have to pay?

Thanks for the help
Kerry

Kerry--
Try a search of old topics--there was a very good thread on this not long ago, complete w/pics of the finished exhaust system. An exhaust shop in Norman priced an x-pipe setup to fit my 79 from headers to mufflers at around $215.00 this week.

Good luck.

Here's something I posted a couple seeks ago:

All,
Last week I asked you how to reduce the annoying resonance on my chambered exhaust, and several of you suggested I add a crossover pipe.

On my car, I had room behind the frame crossmember, just behind the tranny, and added a 2" crossover (to my 2 1/2 " system). I also had them add a flange in the middle, in case I ever needed to remove/loosen just one side of the exhaust.

Today I drove it through all RPM ranges :D and can say the crossover works well! (not perfect, but makes a noticable difference) While I still have that terrific loud sound and deep notes, I have greatly reduced the annoying resonance and vibration in the 1200-1500 RPM range.

Cost $60 parts and labor.

Important performance note: If you have this job done, my tech says it needs to be done in four steps: Step 1: they cut holes in my existing exhaust and welded in the 2" cross piece with the flange. Step 2: they then cut my exhaust pipes in half about an inch behind the new cross piece and used a fine cutting torch to remove the protusion (the 2" cross piece was cut square and protruding into the 2 1/2" exhaust pipe nearly an inch) This ensures a smooth exhaust flow. Step 3 is weld the exhaust back together, and step 4 is to apply high temp aluminized paint to the welded areas to prevent rust.

I'm quite pleased
