Why do RObert's wheels look all chromed, including the portions extending from the center, yet pictures on the other cars look like the same parts are brushed, or flat metal (unfinished)??
The wheels with the grey centers have a powder coating applied at American Racing. These wheels give you the TT "D" look without worrying about caliper clearance problems.
Did you consider the Vintage Wheel Works curved spoke TT D replicas? They come in 16X8 and are $995 for a set of 4 w/caps & lugs. If you did consider the VWWs, what swayed you to the AR TTs?
Two things swayed me to the AR wheels. One reason is, I have a set of extremely low mileage Comp TA VR rated 255-60x15 tires, (these tires are no longer available from BFG). Secondly many forum members told me that the TT II's will clear the calipers ,which on a covette is a problem. The 16's would have looked nice , but it would have cost me another five or six hundred dollars to use those wheels if I had to buy performance tires. If those wheels were made in 15 inch size I would have considered them. I had visited their web site many times over the last year.
There are other brands of wheels that look like the "D"'s. The new ET wheel company makes a wheel that looks like a "D" but not many people have seen them let aone if they will clear the calipers without using spacers. Radair wheels also have a five spoke design but I have never seen one in the flesh.
I hate to ramble but the wheels I bought fit my situation best. They aren't cheap, but I like how they look.
OK my wheels are 17 x 8 and the tires are 255 45 ZR17. As for longer studs, brake caliper obstruction, whatever else, none. Just stock (4") offset and bolt them on. Hey I got them at Big O Tires. Not exactly a hide out for advanced tire engineering scientests.
If anyone wants to E mail me at hotrod@snowcrest.net I can send a closer picture of a wheel, showing the cross flag center cap. Really fits for a Corvette's wheels.
