I admit my question in the previous post is an odd one (but if anyone has the weight, I'd still like to know what it is).
How about a slightly different question? Does anyone know why Chevy (or GM in other applications) chose to make this pulley so darn beefy when the other pulleys on the car are "lightweight" stamped steel?
I'd like to help you but my pulley is currently attached to the PS pump and unless I need to replace the pump that's where it'll stay. They are a major PITA to remove and install! I never really thought of it as being all that heavy though. You've raised an interesting question. It's a press fit so it may have needed to be built sturdier to prevent flexing or breaking during removal/install.

Thank you very much.
I no longer need both grooves, so I was planning on putting a single groove stamped steel pulley in its place. Extra rotating weight and at the left front corner are some of the worst ways to have excess weight on these cars.
Once I get a couple other minor projects done I'll pull the pump and pulley and see if any of the (later GM) pump pulleys I have will fit.

No, but I recall what the tool looked like several years ago when I needed to swap the pulley on my street rod. If I can find the tool cheap somewhere I'll buy it, otherwise I was just going to make one.

you dont need a puller for the cast iron pulley.....a gentle tap and it comes right off, nylon hammer with the nut backed off a few turns and slight pressure on the back of the pulley,,,tapered seat with a key way...

Just moving the alternator to the right side. I've always been annoyed by the excess left side weight in these cars. (And, I'm tired of the alternator being in the way all the time while I've been playing around with the p/s pump.)
