So without a doubt the dumbest thing I've done is removing my starter motor without paying attention to where the wires go. I confess - I am an idiot.
That being said, I figure the big black ground wire goes to the big post on the solenoid, and the little red-ish wire goes on the little post. My problem is the two wires that are crimped together; I don't know where they go to???? and I don't want to stick 'em with the black incase I toast the new starter.
I'm sure this isn't a big mystery to anyone that's changed their starter motor so if anyone can please tell me which post the two wire combo goes to. The colors are all faded so I can't be more specific.
There should be a black wire that grounds the wipers and the heater motor. That goes to the bell housing or the starter mounting bolt. The wires crimped together should be the hot and go to the large solenoid terminal. There should be a red, or pink wire to the ignition side (outside) small terminal. There should be a purple wire to the inside(closest to the engine) terminal. You didnt say what year. If `82 it might not have that red/pink by-pass wire.

Both battery main leads (positive and negative) are black! The negative battery wire is bolted to the car's frame, just below the battery box. There should be a short, 2 awg black [ground] wire that comes from the engine's right-side motor mount area. That wire is connected to the the starter mounting bracket that bolts to the engine casting and acts as main ground for the starter. The other 2awg (black) wire is the positive lead from the battery, and that connects to the large (upper) terminal on the starter solenoid. You really need to get a good wiring diagram for your car...before you short out some fusible links--or worse.
