codes on 1981 CCC
As I am in the Netherlands, I want to prepare myself a bit, and just cannot find practical info on the car's CCC system, more in particular how to read codes and what to do next.
I have seached this forum and elsewhere on the net but have not found this info; I do have the Haynes, but cannot find this very helpful, in very many cased one is refered to the Dealer :<(
Can one help?
I once bought a OBD I codereader for my Ford vehicle at something like $35 or so, while in the US, but it would even be better now,if I could get some program and interface [to be built by me] for a laptop . Where could this be found or purchased?
Thanks for any input,
Cor

It's got the instructions for reading as well as what the codes relate to. No real troubleshooting info, but that's out there too.
Have fun, and Welcome.
You might want to consider getting an 81 service manual. There are excellent diagnostic write ups in there.
I agree, the 81 Service, or Shop Manual, has complete diagnostic info on the CCC, along with a list of the codes. In the mean time, with a jumper wire, you can run a test of the system yourself.
Pull the ashtray out of the console to locate the 5 port "Diagnostic Link" terminal under the ashtray. With the ignition switch in the on position (but do not start the engine), use a wire to jump the D and E terminals (the last two ports on the right side of the terminal), this will cause the "Check Engine" light to blink. Initially the light will blink the code "12", to signify that the system is functioning properly. Code 12 is a single blink, a pause and two blinks. After a slightly longer pause, the 12 code will be repeated two more times. Afterwards, any stored problem codes will flash in the same manner as the 12 code.
If after running the test, you get any problem codes, post them here and someone can tell you what the fault is.
The comment
If everything is working well, then you won't have anything to do on it.
made me smile

Yeah absolutely correct, but that is true for most things, right.
I have been searching E-bay and GM shop manuals are frequently offered for sale around 45-50 $; that would be fine, but I do not fancy to pay more than that amount on freight charges

I know what to expect from the GM manual, as I have one for my '89 Winnebago motorhome on a chevy P30 chassis.
Trying to figure a way to avoid/lower the freight; maybe collecting on a USA vacation next year?
Thanks again,
Cor
